Comments on few recent movies watched!

Sathuranga vettai

    - Definitely one of the bold unusual movies in the current chronicle of Tamil films. It’s a story telling of contemporary reports on financial frauds occurred in the state.

The film is crisp, sharp and swift in narration with real time characterization and top technical parameters of a quality cinema.

The story evokes stirring questions on the viewers – the human calamity due to complete neglect of the down trodden by the rotten system – the social impact of widening gulf between the haves and have-nots – the consequence of modern canons of ‘jungle’ in vogue such as, ‘survival of the fittest i.e. apparent triumph of raw "talents" over values’ ‘compartmentalized approach to [human] development i.e. measuring human advancement only from material angle‘ - ending up in making demons out of humans!

The eventual triumph of values and interestingly the overpowering effect of a real ‘yin’ on a deviant ‘yang’ – reminding the concept line of the Hollywood blockbuster, ‘Pretty woman’ are convincingly told!

Megha

‘Megha’ and ‘Mukil’ are beautiful names both meaning the clouds! ‘Mukil’ – is a Tamil word while the former is undoubtedly a Sanskrit one.

Caricature of songs, particularly,  ‘Puthampudu kaalai….’ - the decades old ever-fresh  composition of Ilayaraja from ‘Alaigal Oyvadillai’ with ever green lyrics – actually it was not featured in  it’s original film for reasons not known….! - was really awesome , attractive and like a fantasy of the sort.

The husky seductive voice of Anitha is perhaps a tinge more than the legend Janaki in pouring a romantic setting to this song!

On the sideline, a dimple on the cheeks or chin is said to be a clear astro-mark of the Venus power!

No doubt such guys are found in the performing arts – but the tinsel World - as a delusionary realm, is said to be influenced by an astro combination of Raghu and Venus!

Coming back to the stuff, alas the director is running for a cover after his bold openings!

The story tumbles down and has to be halted somehow and somewhere abruptly. A miserable handling of story line has spoiled a remarkable attempt at the beginning.

A fine blend of mellifluous music with striking picturisation is the only scoring point in this film which attempts to mix up a murder-mystery, thrill, romance and a medical question – all in one - resultantly spoiling the broth.

Even ‘vadakary’ scores better on this count with it’s stuffed story and a spicy handling of the subject in spite of few filthy song sequences. This story is built on a recent racket in the state, on some maphia-syndicate, marketing expired drugs after re-labeling.
