A
poster captioned ‘suggestion for success’, fixed near the work desk of a Public
Prosecutor whom I visited recently struck me - jotted the tips down there and I upload them here;
SUGGESTION
FOR SUCCESS
Give
people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.
Be
forgiving of yourself and others.
Be
generous.
Have
a grateful heart.
Persistence,
Persistence, Persistence.
Discipline
yourself to save money on even the most modest salary.
Treat
everyone you meet like you want to be treated.
Commit
yourself to quality.
Be
loyal.
Be
honest.
Be
a self- starter.
Stop
blaming others. Take responsibility for every area of your life.
...........But actually the very first entry in the above list of suggestions which I took away to avoid distractions from rest of the above really useful and very good motivational guidelines was....,
- 'Marry the right person. This one decision will determine 90% of your happiness or misery.....'
As per the Saivite philosophy, the nature of the soul is that it is affected by its environment or rather associations. So association with the right persons would enhance a person’s caliber to multi folds. Saivite religion calls upon the devotees to revere, mingle and be in the company of the devotees to sustain and nurture the spiritual value system – i.e. ‘jangama worship principle’. In other traditions it is 'sath sanga'
Personal Excellence gurus also advice us to join the club of people with similar aspirations in life.
From my
understanding of literary and philosophical perceptions of the Tamil tradition
- and out of my own observations - I am bold enough to surmise that
almost all the households of this country ONCE should have been constructed on
the deep and soulful connections between the members - 'in spite of' every
other factors......
I also tend to guess, the neo -urban, inhuman, modern upcoming life style has imposed an
appearance conscious, materially weighing, impatient and unintelligent
attitudinal wedge which perhaps thwart many a family units and other bonds
which actually constitute the bricks of the country.
'IN SPITE
OF' appears to be the key word.
However the 'strong' i.e. infact 'matured' family units and other bonds help the success of individuals and the country. Recent Tamil films, 'Abiyum Naanum' and ‘Pasanga’ are pitched on the themes of conjugal conundrums and conciliation portrayed in realistic and beautiful ways.
